Ross Aftel﷯ Percussionist - New York In 2008 Ross performed with Arthur Lipner and the East Carolina University Percussion Ensemble at the Percussive Arts Society International Conference (PASIC). In the spring of 2009, he was a founding member with Chris Nappi of East Carolina University’s contemporary ensemble, Ensemble 4’33”. In the summer of 2010, he was a participant in the Festival junger Künstler Bayreuth. While attending the festival, he worked with percussionist Srdan Palackovic (Belgrade Symphony), conductor Patrick Lange (Berlin Comic Opera), conductor Sebastian Weigle (Frankfurt Opera), violinist Juraj Cizmarovic (Bayreuth Festival), violinist Susanne Calgéer (Berlin Philharmonic), and violist Ulrich Schneider (Nuremburg Philharmonic). Ross has been a timpanist with the Tidewater Wind Symphony, and has played with the Tar River Symphony and Tar River Wind Ensemble. In 2011, he was a guest artist and lecturer at Howard University in the Qross Percussion Duet with Quintin Mallette on music from the New York School. Ross has performed music of Charles Wuorinen with pianist Eric Huebner, music of Mauricio Kagel with cellist/composer Dr. Jonathan Golove, and has also performed with Tony Arnold. He played Mauricio Kagel's Match for Three Players at a TEDx event at the University at Buffalo.This summer Ross will be performing in the June In Buffalo Fesitval performing pieces from Brian Ferneyhough, Charles Wuorinen, and Chinary Ung. Ross is currently persuing a masters degree in performance with professor Thomas Kolor, and plans to start a PhD in musicology.
